Jupiter Cantab was founded by two ex-Sinclair Research employees, Steven Vickers and Richard Altwasser. Externally, the Ace bore more than a passing likeness to the ZX80/81, but under the skin, the Ace was rather more radical.

Despite a general feeling of good-will towards the machine, the Ace failed to make an impact on the British marketplace, mainly because computer users at the time were looking towards the far more glamorous Spectrum and BBC Micro.
